Appeals Court Finds for Cadiz Water Project
The California Court of Appeals has just given the Cadiz Water Project a huge win, denying all six lawsuits challenging the Project’s environmental review and approval.
The rulings, affirming an earlier determination by the Orange County Superior Court, mean not one word of the environmental studies and not one step of the approval process have been changed, despite the concerted efforts of the Project opponents’ legal teams.
In a news release immediately following publication of the ruling, Cadiz CEO Scott Slater said, “We are extremely grateful for the Appellate Court opinion and its validation of the environmental review and approval of the Water Project.”
Dan Ferons, general manager of Santa Margarita Water District, the lead agency in the environmental review process, added, “The ruling removes legal uncertainties as we proceed with planning and facility design. SMWD is one step closer to expanding our water portfolio to include this innovative Water Project. We will continue to work with our partners to determine the next steps.”
